Purpose/Duties

To demonstrate the value of youth through responsible, positive youth action; to empower youth with skills, information, and organizational support so that they can participate within and significantly impact the political, educational, recreational, and social service systems in their community. The Commission provides the Board of Supervisors with the views of youth on county matters affecting young people; advocates for county policy which promotes and utilizes youth as planners and decision makers; diversifies and expands Marin's present recreational opportunities for young people; and provides direct service to youths ages 12-23 in leadership development training.

Qualifications

Two representatives are appointed from each District, and 10 At-Large Commissioners are appointed to reflect the needs of the diversity of youth in Marin County. Three liaisons may serve the Commission in a non-voting capacity. Commissioners must live or go to school in Marin County and range in age from 12 to 21, with the exception of one member being allowed to be in the range of 22-23.
