Purpose/Duties

To study and recommend plans and strategies to the Marin County Board of Supervisors related to the development, funding, management and operation of the Marin Center, County Fair, visitor services and other cultural services and to encourage donations of funds for cultural purposes from private sources.

Qualifications

One representative is chosen from each Supervisorial District as well as three at-large representatives and one Veteran's representative. Interest in the areas of the Marin Center, fairs, visitor services, the performing arts and other cultural services is an important qualification.

Term Length

2 years for At-Large members, 4 years for District appointees and Veterans' representative.

Number of Members

Nine members. Five shall be generally representative of the five supervisorial districts, with each Supervisor nominating one member, not necessarily residing in his/her district; three shall be representative of the entire county and shall be nominated and appointed at large; one shall be representative of the interests of Veterans and Veteran's Associations as determined by the Board.

Reimbursements For Expenses/Per Diem

All members shall serve without compensation. Members may be reimbursed for actual expenses incurred, including travel, lodging and meals, while on official business of the Commission, when such business has been authorized by the Board of Supervisors.

Beginning October 1, 2022, a stipend will be available for members of boards and commissions who self-certify to household income below the County self-sufficiency standard. For more information or to apply to the stipend program, see the Board Stipends Program Webpage.

Time and Day of Meetings

4th Wednesdays – except January and December and no meetings June, August, and November. Meetings are held in Friends of Marin Center Conference Room - Marin Center. For more information, call 473-6400.
