Purpose/Duties
To resolve California building standards matters involving issues arising under Title 24 California Code of Regulations, Part 2, to conduct hearings on written appeal under Section 1.8.8 of Part 2, Title 24 California Code of Regulations, and to approve or disapprove interpretation and determinations made by the building safety division, determine suitability for the purpose intended of alternate materials and types of construction, to provide for reasonable interpretations of the provisions of this chapter, and to make recommendations to the Board of Supervisors concerning amendments to the Marin County Code.

Number of Members
Five members plus the County's Chief Building Official who serves as a non-voting ex-officio member, as follows: two licensed CA contractors, one licensed professional engineer, one licensed architect and one member of the general public. The Board of Supervisors may appoint alternate representative members.
Reimbursements For Expenses/Per Diem
Beginning October 1, 2022, a stipend will be available for members of boards and commissions who self-certify to household income below the County self-sufficiency standard. For more information or to apply to the stipend program, see the Board Stipends Program Webpage.
