Purpose/Duties

The purpose of the County Alcohol and Drug Advisory Board shall be: • To review the scope of alcohol and drug problems in the County. • To review the community's alcohol and drug program needs, services, facilities, and special programs. • To work with and consult the County Departments (i.e. Behavioral Health and Recovery Services and Health and Human Services) responsible for drug and alcohol misuse programs and services to the County's residents. • To advocate for and to support the development, implementation, and evaluation of effective alcohol and drug programs throughout the County. • To educate the public about the nature of alcohol and drug problems, as well as the resources available to the community. • To network with other involved community members and agencies who are addressing drug and alcohol issues in Marin County. • To keep informed on legislative issues related to alcohol and drugs and to encourage the support of legislation that will work toward effective prevention, treatment, and recovery for all Marin residents. • To make recommendations to the Marin Board of Supervisors regarding legislation, education, community, and program needs relevant to drug and alcohol concerns.

Qualifications

The Advisory Board shall not include any person, or his or her spouse, who is any of the following: (1) a member of the board of directors or advisory body or employee of any county operated alcohol or drug program, or provider of alcohol or drug program services operating under a contract with 
the County, or licensed drinking driver program or MAT program; (2) a member of any advisory body to, or a person who holds any similar position or title on a compensated or non- compensated basis in a program which seeks to or possesses a license to operate drinking driver program services or MAT program services; (3) a direct recipient of any state funds allocated under Part 2 or 3 of Division 10.5 of the Health and Safety Code, pursuant to a contract with the State Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs, which shall include compensation for contracted services from, or membership on an advisory body or board of directors of, the entity which receives funds; (4) a member of the 
Board of Supervisors or a person on the staff of a member of the Board of Supervisors; or (5) an  employee of the Marin County Department of Health and Human Services.

Number of Members

Members shall have a professional interest in, or personal commitment to, alleviating problems related to alcohol and drug use in the community. The membership shall include representatives from various economic, social, and occupational groups and shall be broadly representative of the demographic characteristics of the County.

Reimbursements For Expenses/Per Diem

Beginning October 1, 2022, a stipend will be available for members of boards and commissions who self-certify to household income below the County self-sufficiency standard. For more information or to  apply to the stipend program, see the Board Stipends Program Webpage.

Time and Day of Meetings

First Monday of every month from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at 20 North San Pedro Rd., Point Reyes Room. For specific information regarding upcoming meetings, please call 473-3020 or check the County's meeting calendar.
