Search Recorder's Official Records
Search the Recorder's Official Records in four different ways.
Searches can take 10 or more seconds depending on the criteria used.
All fields marked with * are required.
1. By Name
How to Search by Name

Official Records are indexed by name only – you cannot search by property address or assessor parcel number
(APN).

When entering last names of individuals, please use the following guidelines:

O'Connor is entered as O CONNOR.
-
McDonald is entered as MC DONALD.
-
MacDonald is entered as MAC DONALD.
-
Macdonald is entered as MACDONALD.
-
Hyphenated names (i.e. SMITH-JONES) should be entered with the hyphen.

Company names should be entered in the "Last Name" box (i.e. MC DONALDS CORP)
-
Company names containing "and" should be entered with an ampersand ("&"):

Smart and Final is entered as SMART & FINAL.

Entries are not case sensitive.
2. By Document Number
How to Search by Document Number
To search by document number, enter the 4-digit year followed by seven digits. The document number may appear in
one of the following formats:

3. By Book and Page
How to Search by Book and Page
For the Book field enter up to 4 digits.
For the Page field enter up to 3 digits.
Entry of both fields is required to view a document.
4. By Document Title
How to Search by Document Title
Select a type of document from the dropdown.
Then select the start and end dates for the search. A missing end date will default to today's date.
This online search of the Recorder's Official Records includes documents recorded since 1/2/1973.
Documents recorded prior to 1973 may be viewed in Room 232 in the Marin Civic Center.
