Purpose/Duties

The Commission reviews and makes recommendations to the Board of Supervisors on all countywide and community plan elements and amendments, master plans, and rezonings. The commission has final authority (pending appeal to the Board of Supervisors) on subdivisions, design reviews, use permits, and other planning decisions appealed from planning staff actions. The Commission also hears appeals of the findings of the Deputy Zoning Administrator and actions of the County's planning staff.

Qualifications

Seven members appointed by the Board of Supervisors, consisting of one member from each of the five supervisorial districts, and two at-large members.

Term Length

4-year term for each Supervisorial District representative; 2-year terms for each at-large representative.

Number of Members

Seven members.

Reimbursements For Expenses/Per Diem

$100 per diem per meeting is authorized for all commission members.

Beginning October 1, 2022, an additional stipend will be available for members of boards and commissions who self-certify to household income below the County self-sufficiency standard. For more information or to apply to the stipend program, see the Board Stipends Program Webpage.
