Purpose/Duties

The Commission’s mission is to promote a community based on social justice, with equality for all, and to eliminate discrimination based on race, religion, color, age, ancestry, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, place of birth, national origin, or disability. To this end the Commission shall provide a public forum, serve as a resource to the community, and advise the Board of Supervisors on human rights issues.

A special interest in the accomplishment of human rights in the county.

Number of Members

Seven members. One representative is appointed by the Board of Supervisors from each Supervisorial district, and two appointments are from the county at large. All Commissioners shall be residents of Marin County.

Reimbursements For Expenses/Per Diem

Commissioners can be reimbursed for reasonable and necessary mileage and travel expense incurred in the course of duty as authorized by the Human Resources Director, in accordance with laws and regulations pertaining to county officers and employees

Beginning October 1, 2022, a stipend will be available for members of boards and commissions who self-certify to household income below the County self-sufficiency standard. For more information or to apply to the stipend program, see the Board Stipends Program Webpage.
