Purpose/Duties

The Commission shall (1) serve as an advisory and resource body and liaison to the Board of Supervisors, the Director of County Library Services, and the Community and (2) find ways and means of enlisting public interest in supporting and improving library services to the citizens of the County of Marin in alignment with the Marin County Free Library's Mission. The Commission shall serve as the Oversight Committee for any time-limited revenue generating tax measures if needed.

Qualifications

Membership shall be broadly representative of the demographic characteristics of the county and, insofar as appropriate, shall include representation from various economic, social, occupational, ethnic, racial, and age groups, in particular from the following sectors: youth, older persons, business, labor, and education. The most important qualification for membership shall be a demonstrated interest in the development and support of the Marin County Free Library.

Term Length

Each member shall serve a three-year term to conclude at the end of the fiscal year of the third year. A member may serve a maximum of four complete consecutive three-year terms or a maximum of 12 years whichever is lower.

Reimbursements For Expenses/Per Diem

Commissioners submit monthly to the V.P. expense receipts incurred while on official Commission business. Vice President maintains records of reimbursements requested and forwards them to the Director of County Library Services for further processing.

Beginning October 1, 2022, a stipend will be available for members of boards and commissions who self-certify to household income below the County self-sufficiency standard. For more information or to apply to the stipend program, see the Board Stipends Program Webpage.

Time and Day of Meetings

Regular meetings are held the second Wednesday of the month, unless a holiday, at 4:00 p.m. There is no meeting in the month of July.  Location rotates among Library branches. For information, please call 473-6051.
