Purpose/Duties

To advise the Board regarding parks and open space policy, and to conduct public hearings on parks and open space matters considered for recommendation to the Board.

Qualifications

Members shall be representative of the entire county, shall be geographically diverse, and shall be nominated and appointed at large. The Board shall endeavor to appoint a balanced commission whose members bring demonstrated expertise and interest in subject areas and disciplines beneficial to the county's provision of parks and open space stewardship, facilities, programs and services, including the following: education and outreach, natural and cultural areas preservation and management; recreation services and facilities; wellness, health and safety; philanthropy or fund raising; community planning and sustainability; and financial management.

Reimbursements For Expenses/Per Diem

All members shall serve without compensation. Members may be reimbursed for actual expenses incurred, including travel, lodging and meals, while on official business of the Commission, when such business has been authorized by the Board of Supervisors.

Beginning October 1, 2022, a stipend will be available for members of boards and commissions who self-certify to household income below the County self-sufficiency standard. For more information or to apply to the stipend program, see the Board Stipends Program Webpage.

Time and Day of Meetings

Regular meetings are held generally on the third Thursday of every other month beginning in January, starting at 2:00 p.m., in Room 328, Marin County Civic Center, 3501 Civic Center Drive, San Rafael, CA. The commission may schedule additional meetings as warranted. For additional information, please call 473-7809.
